My suitcase

I knew I was a little too relaxed packing this time.

Things I brought:
2 sets of nail clippers (accident)
1/2 kilo of museli bars (vital)
twice as many sox as underwear (pointless)
car keys (forgot to give them to Wendy so she can drive my car)
a hat (it is cool and overcast most of the time)

Things I forgot to bring:
cable to connect camera to laptop (therefore I can't upload any photos until I return)
big tripod (damm there is some good night scenes here!)

How about pulling out the camera's memory card and plug it in to an external reader? If you don't have a reader I'd suggest getting one... :)

Oh, and make sure you use the lowest ISO setting you have. I've seen many people take lovely - but noisy - night shots thinking that they have to increase the ISO to take a shot in low light. That's only true if you need a fast shutter speed. With a tripod you (usually) have the luxury of being able to use whatever shutter speed you like.

And it's generally a good idea to increase your aperture from the widest (which is often used) to something narrower - 5.6 or 8 is often good. Reason being that you'll get wider depth-of-field and the lens usually has its sweet spot nearer the middle of the aperture range.

Try and shoot at dusk too, when there is still some light in the sky.

Now go and take some photos and - using your potentially new external card reader - upload them so we can see 'em!

1. Don't have an external reader. Don't know how to get one.

2. I ALWAYS use ISO200 unless I'm in really bright light and then I may do ISO100

3. My cameras smllest ap is F8 but of course I can't go that low without a tripod.....

Sorry u gunna have to wait for photos i think. Only 5 more days to go.

I *suppose* I can wait a couple more days. ;)

Why do you prefer ISO 200?

I think we're overdue for a catch-up over coffee - or beer...

I suppose ISO200 just gives good results most of the time indoors/out and you start to see noise at ISO400.

Yes we need a beer. Will see what I can do on return.
